Ah, Utah in autumn.  I had the good fortune of a business trip to the Salt Lake City area in October.  I have been to other parts of Utah and really enjoyed them.  Places such as Bryce Canyon National Park, and Zion National Park.  Those places are internationally famous for their beauty, and they did not disappoint. I had never done any research into the Salt Lake City area.

I made sure I set aside some time for shooting.  My meeting was scheduled for Monday morning. So, I arrived in Utah Sunday morning giving me the afternoon for a shoot (travel note: there is virtually nothing open on Sunday in Utah, including restaurants).  I also scheduled to fly home on Tuesday morning giving me Monday afternoon to shoot.

I chose the “Provo Canyon Scenic Byway” for Sunday afternoon.  It includes “Bridal Veil Falls,” a 600 foot-plus double-cataract waterfall, Sundance Ski Resort which claims beautiful vistas, and the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway which is flooded with Aspens every which way you look.  I arrived just after peak for fall colors but even the tail end was amazing.

Aspens in October

Monday afternoon arrived early, so I thought. My meeting ended early, and I moved up my conference call to 1:00 so I could get an earlier start.  But as luck would have it, the call took 1 1/2 hours to complete. Sigh.  I headed south to the “Nebo Loop Scenic Byway” which starts in Payson and ends in Nephi leaving me a 90 minute drive back to the airport. The drive started off great with a photo opp even before the entry to the Uinta National Forest.

Just Before Uinta

A stop just before Uinta provided this mountain scene.

Then I made the steady climb up to 9,000 feet, gasping for air included. And, I was in a car! Here is a shot of Aspen trees from on the way up. Followed by a shot from Majestic Mountain – and it was aptly named.

Majestic Mountain

Aptly Named Majestic Mountain

Utah near Salt Lake City is much more beautiful than I had known or expected.  I’m already planning to work a trip back.

Thanks for stopping by.
