Winslow Arizona conjures up famous Route 66 or lyrics from the Eagles’ hit song, “Take it Easy.” You will experience both while based at an oasis of a hotel. You will also photograph interesting sights such as a waterfall that looks to spew chocolate to a petrified forest.

Along with some expert instruction we will get you in the right place at the right time to get wonderful photographs. You will walk away with some amazing photos of amazing places.

The target audience is for beginners to intermediate photographers who love landscapes and would like to learn more. As long as you have a DSLR (we shoot Nikon but others are welcome), a laptop computer (we are Mac users), Adobe Lightroom (trial copy is fine), and a tripod you can successfully take and process your photos. We will provide instruction on the basic use of Lightroom and image composition. In addition, we will host group critique sessions.

There will be early mornings and late nights as we want to take advantage of the beautiful light at sunrise and sunset. So, sleep is optional. We will also be doing some light to moderate hiking to get to desired locations.

Day 1:

  • Arrive at Scottsdale mid-afternoon and check into hotel
  • Introduction work session to discuss: what to expect each day, review of each attendee’s gear, review of the upcoming sunset shoot.
  • Sunset shoot at Superstition Mountain (there is an one hour drive with little walking)
  • Post shoot short workshop to review the sunset shoot and prepare for the next day’s schedule.

Day 2:

  • Petrified Forest
  • Painted Desert Park
  • Sunset Crater (1 hr)
  • Coal Mine Canyon (1.5 hrs)
  • Chocolate Falls
  • Ghost Towns - Two Guns?
